In Chapter 13 of Bhagavat Gita, Lord Krishna enumerated twenty values of life that one should adopt. In the subsequent Chapter 16, the Lord gives an exhaustive list of the noble traits (Dhaivyam) that one should cultivate and the contrary list of the devilish (Aasuree) traits one should avoid. The slokas 1-4 of Ch.16 lay down these traits:

During Navaratri celebrations, we pray to Durga in the first three days to grant us the strength and ability to banish the negativities in us and in the succeeding three days we pray to Lakshmi to grant us the wealth of the twentysix divine qualities (daiveeka sampatthi), enabling us with the Blessings of Sarasvati in the last three days to gain spiritual knowledge.
